Christmas Bird Count for Families
Be part of a long-standing holiday program that ultimately helps protect our extraordinary birds! Families are invited to participate in some indoor birding activities and can choose from several different times throughout the day to help with the outdoor bird count. The Christmas Bird Count (CBC) is a long-standing program of the National Audubon Society, with over 100 years of citizen science involvement. It is an early-winter bird census, where thousands of volunteers across the US, Canada and many countries in the Western Hemisphere, go out over a 24 hour period on one calendar day to count birds. This all-volunteer effort takes a snapshot of bird populations to monitor their status and distribution across the Western Hemisphere. The results are compiled into a database that is shared with federal, state, and private authorities.
